Getting there

Crianlarich is easily reached by car, coach or train.


Strathclyde Passenger Transport (SPT) operate direct services from Glasgow Central to Wemyss Bay. The train takes 50 minutes to 1 hour and calls at Paisley Gilmour Street, Bishopton, Port Glasgow, Whinhill, Drumfrochar, Branchton, IBM, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay. Glasgow Central can be used as a connecting point for trains to further afield, including the South of Scotland, London Euston and other parts of England. McGills buses operate bus services from Glasgow Buchanan Street bus station to Wemyss Bay. These are bound for Largs and call at several stops including Langbank, Greenock, Gourock and Wemyss Bay, depending on the individual service. These are buses 901, 906 and 907 – please check locally for departure information to make sure you board the correct bus for Wemyss Bay. The bus can also be taken on to Largs, including for ferries to the Isle of Cumbrae.


From Glasgow  32 miles

Follow the M8 westbound past Glasgow Airport. This later becomes the A8, and you should follow this as far as Greenock, where you should turn left onto Dellingburn Street, the B788. Continue up the hill which becomes Baker Street, now the B7054. You will eventually get to a roundabout where you meet the A78, follow the road straight across to the left, and follow the A78 all the way to Wemyss Bay.

From Ayr  41 miles

Head north out of Ayr on the A77. Once past Prestwick Airport, turn left at the roundabout onto the A78. Then follow signs for the A78 northbound, past Irvine, and all the way to Wemyss Bay.

From Dunoon  11 miles

You will have to take one of the ferries across the Clyde Estuary to Greenock or Gourock, then simply head southbound down the coast into Wemyss Bay. Please check ferry times, prices and operating information before setting off.


Wemyss Bay is just 23 miles from Glasgow International Airport, 34 miles from Prestwick Airport, and 70 miles from Edinburgh Airport.  Flights operate from Prestwick to a number of UK and European destinations, whilst Glasgow and Edinburgh serve destinations throughout the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the US.
